Abstract This paper describes the challenging role of librarians in the development of organizations in information age. The author argues how the traditional system of librarianship has completely been whitewashed with the advent of new technologies in the present information seeking environment. The transition of information from paper to electronic media, complexity in information needs and the increase in the cost and quality of information has also been discussed. The paper discusses the requirement of minimum facilities in libraries for the maximum utilization of library resources and to satisfy the maximum demands of the clientele. Highlights the problems faced by libraries these days. Finally discusses the qualities of the librarians that are essential for the survival.
