Abstract The paper provides a review of recent developments in electronic publishing in BRICS countries, with a focus on Open Access (OA). It describes the status of OA publishing with regard to OA repositories and OA journals by collecting data from ROAR, Open DOAR and DOAJ. Finally a comparison of the retrieved data of the five BRICS countries is presented. It is inferred from the comparison that the Open Access is getting momentum among BRICS countries.
