Information Seeking Behaviour of Physical Scientists of Assam University and Mizoram University: A Comparative Study

Abstract

The present study is an attempt to compare the information seeking behaviour of physical scientists (i.e. teachers and research scholars) of Assam and Mizoram Universities. The scientists in university always need information to perform their duty and responsibility i.e. teaching and research. Information need is an aspect of information behaviour that represents the root of information search. A structured questionnaire was framed and distributed to physical scientists of these two universities to analyze their information seeking behaviour. The analysis revealed the frequency & purpose of visiting the library, use of library services, usage of formal and informal sources, purpose of seeking information, the category of information used and use of UGC-Infonet consortium by physical scientists.
