Abstract Distance education provides convenient time and space independent learning environment. As a part of support services provided by distance learning institutions libraries play an important role in dissemination of information resources to distance learners. However, here it becomes essential to know the opinion or perception of distance learners about the library resources and services, and their preference to use library for the academic needs. So the present study attempts to know the perception of IGNOU graduate and postgraduate students regarding library services. The study also analyses the frequency of visiting the library by the learners and satisfaction derived from the various services at IGNOU libraries. The study revealed that students lack awareness about the library services, prefer to purchase help-books rather than consulting reference books and most students do not prefer to visit the library at all.
