Abstract

The Paper indicates three methodologies for evaluating the performance of Scientists in research laboratories, based on their productivity profile, considered in terns of research contributed. Among the three methodologies studied, the Lotka's approach to study the distribution of productivity in the overall productivity profile of scientists in research laboratories is considered as the core methodology. A Case study is presented on the comparative evaluation of productivity profile of scientists in the 13 engineering sciences R&D laboratories of the council of scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India. It also looks at the statistical regularities in their productivity profiles and the statistical models describing them.
