Retrospective conversion: A cross platform programme in Java.

Abstract
Catalogues in machine-readable form are essential for library automation. With the emergence of library networking this becomes even more essential. The paper enumerates the types and methods of converting the catalogues into machine-readable form, with advantages and disadvantages of each method. The paper also attempts to highlight the problems involved in retrospective conversion of bibliographic data. Finally the paper describes IDA version J, software written in Java to convert silver platter output into ISO 2709 format.
