Abstract In view of recent ‘Right to Education’ Act passed by the Indian Parliament, it is all the more important to have a proper ‘Role and Goal’ assigned to School Library in new ICT enabled environment. They will have to be treated as priority item in the scheme of things. Necessary norms, guidelines and standards for their day today running on modern lines will have to be developed at a proper forum of school librarians to make them meaningful and indispensable component in scheme of things. The status, pay scales, emoluments and service conditions will have to be matched with their teaching colleagues in the institution. Library collections, operations and services need to be comparable with their counter parts in other developed countries to allow exchange with other schools and free movement of pupil from one school to an other whether in India or abroad. Concludes with a Road map for libraries to follow.
