Abstract

The importance of government publications in academic libraries cannot be over emphasised considering the diverse nature and the type of information they contain. Their invaluable use in historical research and fields relating to politics, economics, banking and finance is a major motivation for the study. The study draws it data from the forms designed and used in consulting the materials in the document room. The study aims to determine the usage of the collection, categories of users, type of materials consulted and the level of users satisfaction. Reveals that students form the highest users, and newspapers, statistical reports are heavily consulted while the majority of users come from the faculty of Buisness and Social Sciences. Points out that the acquisition of government publication is problematic in Nigeria.
